Job Description Job Code: 9310 Job Title: Database Analyst Department: Job may be available in different departments/divisions Reports To: In accordance with specific departmental policies FLSA Status: Exempt Prepared By: Human Resource Services Summary: Maintains and monitors University database systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Monitors databases and ensures they are running accordingly; performs system back-ups, troubleshoots as needed, and logs problems. Performs basic design and creates simple databases and related database objects. Monitors data application programs and investigates any changes made on system. Provides copy of production database to end-users. Installs database drivers. Creates and specifies user access level for each segment of one or more data items such as insert, replace, retrieve, or delete data; specifies which users can access databases and what data can be accessed by user. Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to database; reviews and corrects programs. Creates and customizes forms or reports as per customer needs. Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with program. Trains end users or technical support staff to use programs. Monitors performance of programs after implementation. Assists with special projects, as needed. Complies with all State and University policies. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility; and two to three years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in computer science preferred. Communication Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advance mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram from. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: Knowledge of Information Technology within area of assigned responsibility preferred or the ability to learn. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Professional Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations within area of assigned responsibility preferred. Other Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred and occasional travel may be required.
