Our 71 hard-working custodians clean and service approximately 1.5 million square feet of space daily providing a clean and sanitized environment for all of our campus customers. The custodians are organized into teams and typically work in the afternoons from 2:00pm to 10:30pm with a few custodians taking care of the campus during the day from 5:00am to 1:30pm.

The team cleaning approach focuses on providing a high level of service and more detailed cleaning in restrooms, corridors, classrooms, high traffic areas and gathering areas. The team members that work in the evenings provide detailed cleaning services such as thoroughly cleaning restrooms, vacuuming and/or mopping floors, dusting furniture, emptying trash cans, cleaning stairwells, waxing corridors, and shampooing carpets. During the day, a small cadre of custodians keeps restrooms cleaned and stocked. They also clean entry ways and high use areas, and respond to spills, emergencies, and special requests. The custodial staff provides services upon request such as make-ready preparations prior to an event, cleanup during and after an event, window cleaning, pest control, upholstery cleaning; and non-routine cleaning services.

The custodians are also responsible for locking buildings at the end of the day and will typically lock exterior doors by 10:00pm Monday through Friday. As the custodians finish cleaning interior spaces, they will also lock interior doors (e.g., private offices, labs, classrooms, etc).
