Set Up Virtual Private Networking

Special Note for Roadrunner Users

Roadrunner Customers and UTEP Websites

Students, Faculty, or Staff using Roadrunner as their internet service provider at home, may intermittently experience problems accessing our UTEP websites. We have a solution for you.

  1. Install Virtual Private Networking (VPN). By setting up Virtual Private Networking you will have access to our UTEP websites without any issues.
  2. Use the instructions on these pages to set up and configure VPN on your computer
  3. We strongly recommend you place a call to Roadrunner and have a service ticket logged for this issue.

We thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you would like assistance please contact the Helpdesk at x4357 on-campus or 747-5257 off-campus.

General VPN Information

Basic information for users already familiar with Virtual Private Networking with UTEP:

  • IP Address to connect: vpn.utep.edu

NOTE
VPN connections are for broadband connections only
(non-PPP connections such as RoadRunner (cable) or DSL)

UTEP will only offically support VPN though Windows 2000 or better and Mac OS X. UNIX/Linux workstations and Windows 9x/ME cannot support VPN natively. These Operating Systems require additional software to connect to a VPN which would have to be purchased and/or downloaded. Because of this, support would be from that software and not UTEP.
