1. Q:  Does food service have a meal plan?

 

A:  Food Services has a meal plan available through the Miner Gold Card office.  By placing meal dollars on the Miner Gold Card students and employees can qualify for discounts on meal purchases.  Call the Miner Gold Card Office at 747-7334.

 

2. Q:  Is it more expensive to eat on campus versus off campus?

 

A:  No, pricing for our name brand concept items are specified as equal to local concept pricing and/or authorized promotions (Quiznos, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Chick-fil-a & Freshen's).

 

3. Q:  What benefits are there of eating on campus versus off campus?

 

A: Students, faculty and staff have a vast variety of food item choices. By choosing one of our locations you have the convenience of maintaining their parking space because there is a location within walking distance near you. Our retail locations offer comparable prices than those offered off campus in addition to coupons and daily specials. Eating on campus is also time convenient to those with a limited lunch hour.

 

4. Q:  Do you offer vegetarian and healthy alternatives?

 

A:  Yes, our locations can cater to vegetarians and those who prefer healthier alternatives

§         Café a la Carte (items also offered at Pizza Hut, Miner Stop, Healthy Corner, and Starbucks) offers fruit cups and parfaits, and a variety of salads and sandwiches

§         Café a la Carte, Miner Stop and Healthy Corner offer corn in a cup

§         Pizza Hut is able to accommodate to vegetarians with Breadsticks, Cheese pizzas and Veggie pizzas

§         Many of our locations offer Beans and Cheese Burritos

§         Freshens products offer a variety of smoothies and yogurts

§         Chick-fil-a uses all vegetable oil for fries and peanut oil for chicken products.  No fat/shorting is used. This location also offers a variety of freshly made salads and coleslaw

§         At Skillets International we use olive oil for our menu items and always offer a Veggie Platter

§         Veggie Burgers and Hot Dogs are available at Miners Grill

 

5. Q:  What are my breakfast options?

 

A:  Breakfast is served at El Cazo, Delicious, and (NEW) Chick-fil-a has added a breakfast line . You can also find breakfast items at Café a la Carte, Starbucks, Miner Stop and Healthy Corner.

 

6. Q:  I have classes in the evenings, what locations are open?

 

A:  During regular semesters the following locations are open Monday through Thursday:

§         Locations at the El Paso Natural Gas Conference Center (Pete's Pizza and Quiznos) are open until 7pm

§         WOWat the Mine Shaft offers daily specials from 10:30 until 9:00pm Monday through Wednesday, until 11:00pm on Thursday, and until 5:00pm Friday and Saturday

§         Miner Stop in the College of Business 2nd floor is open from 5:00pm until 7pm

 

7. Q:  Are there any discounts available?

 

A:  Yes, monthly coupons are distributed via email and are posted on our web site. We also offer discounts for Miner Meal Plan subscribers and have daily specials at El Cazo.

 

8. Q:  Do you offer any services when I have very limited time to eat?


A:  Delivery service will be offered shortly to the following areas until a more quality delivery system is in place to add to the entire campus:

·         College of Liberal Arts

·         College of Education

·         Administration building

·         Magoffin building

·         Graham Hall

·         Student Union east & west

 

As of now, we have many to-go and grab and go items at all of our locations.



Catering Frequently Asked Questions

1. Q:  If I plan an event and I choose not to use Sodexo, can I use another caterer?

 

A:  No, Sodexo Food Services has exclusive catering rights for the UTEP campus.

 

2. Q:  What if I can find another caterer cheaper?

 

A:  Please call Alex Munoz at 915.747.7455 and our staff will be happy to work out a menu and pricing that meets your budget.

 

3. Q:  Can I request items that are not offered in the Catering menu?

 

A:  Yes, our menu consists of suggested items, but we are capable of meeting any special needs and/or requests.

 

4. Q:  How long in advance do I have to place an order?

 

A:  Sodexo Catering Services requires at least a 42-hour notice in order to plan an event. However, depending on the type of service requested, we might be able to provide service with a one-day notice.

 

5. Q:  Are your menu items made fresh to order?

 

A:  Yes, all of our products are made from scratch. We do not purchase frozen items to assure our clients with the freshest food possible.

 

6. Q:  If I am part of a Student Organization, do I have other Catering choices other than those provided in the Student Organization specified menu?

 

A:  Yes, we offer this specific menu because Student Organizations often have limited budgets but upon request, we can provide our other menu or a customized menu.


Miner Meals Frequently Asked Questions

1. Q:  What are Miner Meals?

A:  Miner Meals are funds deposited in your Miner Gold card for purchase of meals at any of the University's food venues. Miner Meals are purchased in blocks of $25 increments at Student Business Services, which is located on the first floor of the Academic Service Building.

2. Q:  What are the benefits of purchasing Miner Meals?

A:  Dollars placed on the MIner Gold card are held in reserve exclusively for purchase of food at any of the on-campus food venues. Best of all, you receive an automatic 10% discount on all food purchases when you use your Miner Meals. This discount applies to all food products sold at the University's food venues.

3. Q:  Where can I use Miner Meals?

A:  At all on-campus food venues. Please visit the "Campus Map" link under "Where to eat" on the Sodexo website.

4. Q:  What are the hours of operation and menus?

5. Q: Do Miner Meals carry forward from semester to semester?

A:  Yes they do. You do not loose any portion at any time.

6. Q:  Can I get a cash advance on MIner Meals?

A:  No. Miner Meals stay on your Miner Gold card until the funds are exhausted or until you request a refund.

7. Q:  Can I get a refund on any unused portion of my Miner Meals?

A:  Yes. Refunds are issued upon request at the MIner Gold card office, located on the first floor of the Academic Service Building.
