1. What is the UTEP Miner Gold card?
The Miner Gold card is an all-in-one card. It is the official identification card for the UTEP community and features a new design voted on by UTEP students. It will allow you access to UTEP events, programs, and services. It may also be used on-campus for declining balance (Miner Bucks) purchases at the bookstore, food outlets, and the ticket center.
In addition, the Miner Gold card now comes with the OPTION to be linked to a FREE Wells Fargo College Checking® account*. This allows students to access ATMs and make PIN-based purchases on and off campus. Faculty/Staff members also may link their UTEP Miner Gold card to a Wells Fargo Membership® Checking account.
Enjoy one-card convenience and use your Miner Gold card for all of your on-campus needs and for your day-to-day financial needs!
2. When and where can I pick up my UTEP Miner Gold card?
The UTEP Miner Gold card will be available to all students, faculty, and staff beginning in June 2006. It will be issued at the Miner Gold card office located inthe Academic Services Building. (A valid picture ID must be presented in order to receive a UTEP Miner Gold card.)
3. Do I need to replace my existing UTEP Miner Gold card with the new UTEP Miner Gold card?
Yes. Your existing UTEP Miner Gold card will not be valid after December 31, 2006.
4. What is the new Wells Fargo OPTION that the program will now offer?
When your UTEP Miner Gold card is linked to a FREE Wells Fargo College Checking account, you can use it at any ATM or business that accepts PIN-based debit transactions. Transactions using your UTEP Miner Gold card for ATM or PIN-based transactions are deducted from your Wells Fargo checking account.
5. What do I need to open an account at Wells Fargo?
You will need two forms of identification:
1. Government issued identification card from the federal, state, tribal, local or foreign government. Examples include: Driver’s license, State issued ID card, passport, or military ID.
2. Second identification from a recognized business, educational institution or government. Examples include: Student ID card, Social Security card, Resident Alien card, or Matricula Consular card.
6. What if I already have an existing Wells Fargo checking account?
You can LINK your new UTEP Miner Gold card to your existing Wells Fargo checking account starting June 2006 by visiting any Wells Fargo branch in El Paso.
7. Can I have my financial aid directly deposited into my Wells Fargo checking account?
Yes. All financial aid recipients may have their funds directly deposited into a checking account at any financial institution. The money will be sent electronically to your account - no more waiting in line to receive or cash your check! (Direct Deposit Request Forms are available in the Office of Student Financial Aid.) 8. What should I do if my UTEP Miner Gold card is lost or stolen?
You need to notify BOTH UTEP and Wells Fargo for UTEP Miner Gold cards that are linked to a Wells Fargo checking account as soon as possible. (UTEP Miner Gold card holders without the banking option need only notify UTEP.)

2. To notify Wells Fargo: Visit your nearest Wells Fargo banking location or contact Wells Fargo Phone BankSM at (800) 869-3557.
9. Is there a monthly service fee associated with the Wells Fargo College Checking account?
No. Wells Fargo does not charge a monthly service fee for the Wells Fargo College Checking account. Please speak to a Wells Fargo banker for more details.
10. Where can I open a new Wells Fargo account?
You can visit the Wells Fargo banking location on campus in the Union East Building, First Floor, adjacent to the UTEP Bookstore to open an account. Or visit any of the 12 convenient Wells Fargo banking locations in El Paso that you can find by visiting wellsfargo.com and clicking on ATM/Banking Stores.
*Eligibility is subject to approval. Student must provide proof of enrollment at an accredited institution when the account is opened. The account is available for a maximum of five years, after which it will convert to a Wells Fargo basic checking account subject to applicable checking fees. Students in school for more than five years must show proof of enrollment to remain in the Wells Fargo College Checking account. A $100 minimum deposit is required to open an account.
