Does the program include any other services besides hosted e-mail, calendaring, and contact management?
Yes – several. For example, once issued your username@miners.utep.edu, you can use that e-mail address to authenticate on a number of MSN services, all of which are opt-in and free unless noted otherwise. Here are just a few:
MSN Messenger: great for audio and video conversations with friends, family, and colleagues; multi-user IM functionality for study groups, and so much more…(for more info, please go to this URL: http://join.msn.com/messenger/overview/ )
MSN Spaces: students can create e-profiles for prospective employers, share information, photos, blogs, and more. (for more info: http://join.msn.com/spaces/overview)
Mobile access to IM and e-mail (carrier charges may apply; more info -http://mobile.msn.com). Students can access their .edu e-mail on any web-enabled phone.
What support will students receive?
UTEP Helpdesk will continue to assist with password resets and access to UTEP services and websites. Standard MSN web-based support (http://support.msn.com) will be available for LiveMail issues.
Will faculty and staff be able to find me in the Outlook global address book? Will they be able to create and use distribution lists? Will I still recieve campus bulletins?
Yes, yes, and yes. This is because UTEP creates, stores, and
manages student e-mail addresses locally, making them easy
for faculty and staff to find, and create distribution lists.
Do I need to change my account information in other systems (like WebCT and Listserves)?
Yes, Live will not update other systems and students will need to update those systems manually.
Can I connect to email anyway other than through the my.utep.edu portal?
Yes. You can go directly to mail.live.com, the LiveMail system also supports POP3 connections.
Can my student organization get an email account?
Yes. There is a form that needs to be filled and approved by your college dean, department chair, director, vice-president or the president.
How much e-mail storage will I get?
LiveMail will provide each student with 5GB of storage.
How can I activate my UTEP Miners account?
Once admitted you can activate your account at https://newaccount.utepe.edu or contact the Helpdesk by phone at (915) 747-5257.
What if faculty or staff cannot find me in the Outlook global address book?
