UTEP
provides telephone services on campus, to student residences and a
number of off-campus affiliate buildings. Payphones and some critical
backup lines are provided by Southwestern Bell Communications (SBC) the
local utility provider. The UTEP telephone network has more than phone
numbers on a voice over internet protocol system.

A purchase requisition is required for new phone installation.

Is there a charge for relocating a phone?
If there is a phone jack available at the new location, there is no charge for the move. If the relocation requires the installation of a new phone jack, there will be a charge for the needed materials.
Is there a charge if I supply the phone?
The is charge for programming, wiring and port space.
If you have a spare phone in your office, please return it to the
IT Customer Support Services.
I plugged a phone into a jack in my office. It didn't work. Why?
The telephone jack may not be active. If you need phone service, contact IT Customer Support Services.
Can I take my phone and extension number with me when I change departments?
You must have written permission from the department that owns the phone.
How much is a temporary phone?
Temporary service from one to 30 days is $21, 60 days is $42, beyond 90 is considered permanent service and will be charged as such.

Service Level Agreement
IT technicians will acknowledge a service request within eight working
hours. Actual resolution times will vary, depending on call volume and
the time required to resolve various technical issues.
