UTEP's Barbee Named NABC District 11 Coach of the Year

TULSA, OKLA. - UTEP's Tony Barbee was appointed the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 11 Coach of the Year on Friday after directing the Miners to a 25-5 record this season, including a 15-1 mark in C-USA regular season play. Barbee is one of 24 district winners.

The 2010 Conference USA Coach of the Year, Barbee has the Miners ranked 21st in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, and 25th by the Associated Press heading into Friday afternoon's C-USA Tournament semifinal game versus Tulsa (2 p.m. MT, CBS College Sports & Time Warner Cable Channel 24).

UTEP's 25 wins tie for the seventh-top total in program history. That puts the Miners just three wins away from tying the school standard of 28, established by the 1965-66 national championship team.
