How to run a system scan Minimize    

There are different methods to run malware scans:

To run a complete scan from the console, first open the Avira console(see How to open the Avira console):

Click on "Scan system now" on the Avira console. The "Scan system now" button is located on the lower-right part of the console

There are different scan profiles that Avira can run (see the profile descriptions below) on demand. To use a scan profile, first open the Avira console (see How to open the Avira console):

Click on "Local Protection" on the left side of the window

Select the profile which you want to run

Click on "Start scan with the selected profile"

Scan Profile Description

Local Drives Scan Scans all computer drives; this includes CD-ROMS, Hard drives, USB Storage devices, Floppy disks, etc.
Local Hard Disks Scan Scans all hard drives in your system.
Removable Drives Scan Scans removable drives such as USB Storage devices, CD-ROMS, etc.
Windows System Directory Scan Scans the windows system directory.
Complete System Scan Scans everything on your computer; this includes all of the other listed profiles. Depending on the amount of information on your computer, this process may take a long time to complete (1-2 Hours on average).
Quick System Scan Scans a limited set of folders where viruses and malware usually hide.
My Documents Scan Scans a limited set of folders where viruses and malware usually hide.
Active Processes Scan Scans the process running on your computer.
Rootkit Scan Scans your computer for rootkits.
Manual Selection Scan This profile allows you to select specific folders and files on your computer to scan
